About DiscNW

A community built around a disc

DiscNW is a member-run nonprofit that has organized ultimate in the Pacific Northwest since 1994. More than 10,000 players take the field with us every year, from elementary school leagues to masters.

Our mission

Why we do this

As the home for Ultimate in our region, DiscNW creates inclusive and equitable opportunities to engage with the sport at all levels.

In practice, that means leagues running year round in every corner of the region, youth programs led by trained coaches, and financial aid available on every single program. If you want to play, we will find you a field and a team.

Start here

New to ultimate?

Most of our players started as adults with zero experience. Here is the whole process.

1

Learn the basics

Ultimate is played 7 on 7 on a field about the size of a soccer pitch. Players call their own fouls, and any level of fitness is welcome. You will pick up the rules in a single evening.

2

Pick a starting point

Hat leagues and clinics are built for first-timers. You sign up alone, we place you on a balanced team, and experienced players show you the ropes.

3

Show up

Wear something you can run in. Cleats help on grass, and we bring the discs. That really is the whole packing list.

"I came to my first hat league game nervous that everyone would be way better than me. Within ten minutes someone was teaching me to throw a forehand, and by the end of the night I had plans for the weekend."

Spirit of the Game

We referee ourselves

See spirit standings →

Ultimate has no referees at our level. Players call their own fouls, talk through disagreements on the field, and resolve them together before play continues. After every game, each team rates the other on fairness, communication, and positive attitude. Those spirit scores are tracked in every division and posted right next to wins and losses, because how you play matters as much as whether you win.

The people

Who keeps this running

A small staff, a volunteer board, and hundreds of coaches, captains, and organizers.
